About

I have done my PhD from the School of Public Policy, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India. I received my master’s and bachelor’s degrees in economics.
My doctoral research focused on farm-level adaptation to climate risk, adaptive capacity, information, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). I have used farm-level primary data and a mixed-method approach to answer the broader research questions in my doctoral thesis. The key argument of my PhD thesis is centred around the potential exclusion of the marginalized farming community due to the unbalanced integration of digital technologies that are inherently skill-biased. My research highlights that such disparities affect farmers’ access to agricultural information and social capital creation, influencing their capacity to adapt to climate risk. Based on the empirical work, I discuss in my thesis how certain policy levers can address farmers' differential access to digital technologies and information.
I have hands-on experience conducting field experiments (randomized control trials) and using quasi-experimental approaches to provide evidence-based insights. Before joining IIT Delhi as a Ph.D. student, I worked on two projects based on field experiments (RCTs), one at J-PAL South Asia and the other at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Besides experimental methods, I have used a variety of applied microeconomics approaches to test research hypotheses in agricultural economics. I have also used qualitative research design in my PhD research. I used qualitative coding (manual as well as using Atlas.ti) for thematic content analysis. I also have experience of conducting focused group discussions with farmers in rural areas of Haryana, India.
I am a Research for Impact (RFI) Fellow hosted by J-PAL/CLEAR South Asia. The fellowship is designed to enhance the capacity of Indian PhD scholars to conduct impact evaluations. As part of the RFI fellowship, I have completed a certificate track course by MITx Online on designing and running randomized evaluations. I am currently working in one of J-PAL’s research projects, under Dr. Aprajit Mahajan, Associate Professor in Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, for two months to gain more practical knowledge on designing randomized evaluations. The project is aimed to address the issues of groundwater depletion due to agricultural activities in Punjab, India.
I was awarded the 2023 Complexity Global School Fellowship by Santa Fe Institute, USA. I was one of the 30 candidates selected across South Asia.
I have also worked as a Teaching Assistant, assisting the professors at the School of Public Policy in courses such as Development Studies, Environment and Society, Principles of Economics, and Special Modules in Policy Studies.
